Although José Gabriel López’s art is delightful to look at, he considers himself more of a story teller than a painter. And what stories he has to tell! Enter his world in this colorful and eclectic exhibit.

LESSONS from the TRAILS
An exhibit of works by Alicia Philley

Exhibit Dates: Feb 1 – June 8, 2025.

New work by Alicia Philley created during her three-month fall 2024 artist residency at Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve

Observing the plants and landscape while learning about Wild Basin’s research projects guided Philley’s creative explorations. In these paintings, sketches, sculptures, and photos, you’ll discover:

Colors of rare Coral-Root Orchids, hypothesized to share nutrients with mature Ashe Junipers through root and fungal networks.
Textures of the Juniper bark, used as nesting material by the endangered Golden-Cheeked Warbler.
Slivers of glass gathered from the former landfill hidden beneath the revitalized preserve.
Stories told through twisted branches, roots entwined with stone, shimmering spider webs.
Celebrations of the forest, waterfall, and dappled light that Philley experienced during her time in this west Austin ecosystem.
