Bio
Eve Larson is well known as a portrait artist and native of Austin, Texas, where she has exhibited in many galleries and juried shows since 1985. She participated in the the International Salon at the Greenhouse Gallery in San Antonio and the Bosque Art Classic for 15 years. She was a member of the faculty of the Austin Museum of Art School for over twenty years. Portraiture, still life and landscape are Eve’s areas of expertise. Eve works in oil and in pastel. Eve studied at the Scottsdale Artists School, the Fredericksburg Artists School and the University of Texas. Her teachers include David Leffel, Milt Kobayashi, Gregg Kreutz , Huihan Liu and Ruth Chatfield. Painting and drawing have been a lifelong passion for Eve, although her professional career in art was postponed while she attended Harvard University, majoring in philosophy. She danced for many years with Ballet Austin and eventually became the director of Ballet Austin Academy. Ballet dancers are a continual inspiration for her artwork, and she draws upon her dance background for subject matter for paintings as well as a source of understanding of movement and gesture.
Artistic Statement
I come to visual art from the world of ballet. I was a ballet dancer for many years. I imbue my paintings with the romance and movement of the dance. I always look for the beauty, expressiveness and theatricality in life and art. My paintings have an implied story behind them, which I leave to the viewer’s imagination to fill out. I use color and space to create a mood, and play up the central theme. The play of light upon the focal point emphasizes the dramatic quality of the painting.
